From a beautiful series by Spencer Pryse depicting scenes of the Empire for the 1924 Empire Exhibition. Here depicting Ireland on the coast with barefoot lasses gathering seaweed. Kelp was traditionally used as a fertilizer and also, in the 18th Century, was burnt to create potash for the Glass Industry.
