Vesta Tilley Matilda Alice Powles adopted the stage name Vesta Tilley becoming the most famous and well paid music hall male impersonator of her day. She was a star in both England and the US for over thirty years. By Fred G. Cooper, who began a lengthy career as a freelance designer and illustrator and worked for New York Edison (later ConEd), Westinghouse, and the War Department among others. He also illustrated books and magazine articles and designed alphabets. He was a founding member of the American Institute of Graphic Arts (AIGA). And he contributed to Life, from 1904 on into the early 1930's, when he served briefly as the art editor during the final years of Charles Dana Gibson's ownership of the magazine. c. 1925 24 in. x 30 in.
